Nezara viridula Adult pictured with nymphs (immature bugs)
This is an introduced insect that is a member of the stink bug or shield bug family. It can be a serious pest and is widespread across Australia. It feeds on a range of plants including field crops, vegetables and garden plants. It generally pierces the fruit and sucks out the juices. A parasitoid wasp Trissolcus basalis was introduced in the 1930s and has proved an effective parasite of the Green Vegetable Bug.
