Cornflower 'Blue'

Centaurea cyanus

A hardy, annual flower to 1m high with pretty blue flowers on grey-green foliage. A useful flower for attracting bees and butterflies and as a long-lasting cut flower. A native of Europe, it prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny position, with protection from wind. Suitable for temperate and subtropical areas. Sow seed from March to September.

Cosmos ‘Picotee’        

Cosmos bipinnatus

Picotee is a beautiful cosmos, it has large white flowers edged with shades of rich rosy pink. It is a good background plant that grows over a metre tall. Feathery foliage fills plants in from top to bottom creating a bushy look. Sow cosmos early spring and summer, in autumn in frost-free areas only.  A native of Mexico it prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny position, with protection from wind. Also useful in the orchard as a bee forage and nectar source for beneficial insects. Suitable for temperate and subtropical areas.

Dianthus ‘Volcano Mix’
Dianthus barbatus

Syn. Sweet William is a compact bushy plant to 30 cm high, with masses of small flowers with a spicy fragrance. It is a hardy short-lived perennial, the flowers are shades of mauve, pink and red with white markings. Dianthus thrives best in a well-drained, fertile soil in full sun. Use as a bedding and edging plant, in rockeries and containers. Also good as a cut flower. Sow dianthus from autumn to early spring, all year in warm areas.

Larkspur 'Galilee Blue'

Larkspurs are tall annuals (1 – 1.5 m) with finely cut feathery foliage and double blue flowers Tall flower spikes are produced in early summer that are excellent for cut flowers or the back of garden beds. Sow seed in autumn, it requires a cool temperature (13 deg .C) to germinate well.

Love-in-a-Mist

Nigella hispanica

Love-in-a-Mist is a frost-hardy annual with sky blue, starry flowers nestled in fine foliage and can be used as cut flower or dried. It is upright and fast growing, 45 to 60 cm high with a spread of 20 cm. The seeds can be used as a condiment, similar to pepper. They were also once stored with clothing and believed to repel insects. It prefers to grow in full sun in a rich, well-drained soil. f seed pods are left to develop, then self-sowing is common the next year.
