Seeds for sprouting should always be certified organic or at the very least 'food quality'. Green Harvest also has available a wide range of vegetable seeds for sprouting in bulk packets (25g, 100g, 1kg). Beetroot Cabbage Fennel Kale Mizuna Rocket Turnip

IMPORTANT:

Please remember that sprouts are basically seeds and so obey the germination rules of seeds. That is, they all have a preferred temperature range below and above which they will not germinate. Seeds can basically be divided into warm and cool season. Now is the time for cool season sprouts (alfalfa, broccoli, cabbage, fenugreek, kale, onion, radish, rocket). Wait until spring before trying to grow warm season sprouts (buckwheat, mung, soybean, sunflower) unless you have a centrally heated house or live in north Qld. If the night time temperature drops below the recommended temperature then usually the seed will rot, not sprout.

AUTOMATIC SPROUTER

Grow fresh and nutrient packed greens inside the house! Now any room with some natural light (avoid direct sunlight) can produce food! We have been successfully growing in a garage during the coldest and shortest days of winter.

This Easy Green automatic sprouter will: soak, rinse, mist, oxygenate and drain through the full seed to sprout growth cycle. It can hold 5 cartridge-style sprouting trays (supplied) 320mm x 60, which allows for tasty and nutritious sprouts throughout the week. Or use the large tray (390mm x 330) for a bigger quantity of grasses (wheat, oat, barley).

No soil is required so growing and harvesting sprouts and micro greens is super easy. No pre-soaking of seed is necessary, so you get your sprouts sooner (15-40% quicker). The 5L reservoir holds enough water for 2 days. Water is misted onto the seed or young sprouts at regular intervals by using the timer supplied. This misting helps to avoid mould and rotting, produces a faster crop and supplies abundant amounts of oxygen to the vibrantly growing sprouts.  Supplied with a 1m drainage tube the water is used only once ensuring a clean supply of water is used for each misting cycle. The unit is self-cleaning with the addition of bleach or hydrogen peroxide.

With a total “footprint” of 580mm deep x 430 wide x 200 tall, this will be your most productive, least maintenance required, food-producing area of your property. Please measure and consider your location for this 6kg unit, as it is a large kitchen appliance. Instructions and references to manufacturers’ international website are supplied. Spare parts are available.

This well designed electrical appliance is especially beneficial to extend the eating of fresh greens during the hot humid summers in the subtropical and tropical zones and during cold wintery conditions of the southern states. Great for renters, people who work long days, children, vegans, vegetarian pet owners, bird fanciers and anyone who would rather eat their nutrients than buy “nutritional supplements”. The units can be stacked 5-6 tall for very keen sprouters or small commercial  growers (restaurants / café / tuck shop).

Microgreens Growing Guide
Nutritious – Organic – Beautiful – Easy to Grow

Microgreens are home-grown mini-greens: larger than sprouts and smaller than baby salad greens. They are classed as microgreens after they have produced at least two true leaves after the cotyledons (seed leaves) appear. Whereas sprouts are germinated seeds grown in dark, moist conditions and eaten whole, microgreens are grown in light, on soil or similar substrate and are harvested by cutting the stems, leaving the roots behind. Microgreens add flavour, colour, texture and nutrition to your food. They can be grown in pots, saucers, baskets, styrofoam boxes or in a garden bed. With just a few small containers you can have a range of vegetables it would take a large backyard to produce to full size and in a fraction of the time. This A4 sized, three fold, glossy cardboard guide shows how easy it is to grow microgreens. Beautifully illustrated with photographs of the seed and leaves for each of the 28 microgreens described; each profile includes suggested uses, germination times, ideal growing conditions and more. Step-by-step guides to growing in soil and with the hydroponic method are illustrated with clear diagrams. Create a beautiful garden in your kitchen or on your balcony in only weeks!
